The Jersey Dress

The poster depicts Kerstin Lokrantz and is originally a collection image for the clothing company Wahls. Kerstin designed the dress and often modeled her own designs, much like today’s influencers. What was entirely new about this dress and the whole collection launched in 1953 was the new stretchy material "wool jersey" and Kerstin's flair for quirky details. The same season, dresses made from durable corduroy were introduced, which became immensely popular among Swedish teenagers.
The styling was, of course, Kerstin’s own; checkered patterns were new, black gloves, and a ponytail were Kerstin’s trademarks in the early 50s.
